The cloud is a generic term for a software service, hosted on hardware owned by a service provider. In the case of SharePoint Online, Microsoft offers it under the brand name Office 365 (O365). When will we migrate to SharePoint Online? Office 365 provides an integrated online and offline document formatting and management software suite. Commonly used software includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive, among others.
All members of the Saint Mary’s University community have an Office 365 account, accessible via the link, above, using a SMU email (firstname.lastname@smu.ca) and s# password. The newest version of offline Office software can be downloaded after signing in, and simple web based versions of software accessible through the portal, online. Microsoft Teams
MS Teams is available to all SMU students, faculty, and staff. Teams is a collaborative software product in Office 365. It allows groups to interact with one another through audio and video conferencing, screen sharing, and chat groups. Full classes and small groups can meet for synchronous activities, and full-class events can be recorded for viewing at a later date. As MS Teams is part of MS Office 365, integration with Word, Excel, OneNote, etc. is built-in, allowing groups to work together at ease. MS Teams meetings have a limit of 250 individuals per session.
